Green Tea Extract

Introduction

Green tea is made solely from the leaves of Camellia sinensis that have undergone minimal oxidation during processing. Green tea originates in China and has become associated with many cultures throughout Asia. It has recently become more widespread in the west, where black tea is traditionally consumed. Many varieties of green tea have been created in countries where they are grown. These varieties can differ substantially due to variable growing conditions, horticulture, production processing, and harvesting time.

Over the last few decades green tea extract has been subjected to many scientific and medical studies to determine the extent of its long-purported health benefits, with some evidence suggesting that regular green tea drinkers may have a lower risk of developing heart disease and certain types of cancer. Although green tea extract does not raise the metabolic rate enough to produce immediate weight loss, a green tea extract containing polyphenols and caffeine has been shown to induce thermogenesis and stimulate fat oxidation, boosting the metabolic rate 4% without increasing the heart rate.

Function

1) Assists Weight Loss

The ECGC contained in green tea extract limits the negative effects of a fatty diet and smoking. Consumption of green tea extract enhances the process of thermogenesis and increases the rate of metabolism of fat, without increasing the heart rate.

2)Prevents Tooth Decay

Green tea extract has the ability to destroy plaque-causing bacteria and helps prevent tooth decay.

3)Lowers Cholesterol and Blood Pressure

Green tea extract helps to lower the LDL (bad) cholesterol that’s responsible for clotting of blood. The extract helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.

4)Fights Cancer

Green tea extract is rich in antioxidants, such as ECGC, that kill cancer cells and prevent their growth without harming healthy tissue.

5)Prevents Inflammation

Arthritic patients find that consuming green tea extract decreases the pain in their joints, because it prevents inflammation which in turn decreases wear and tear of the joints.

6)Controls Blood Sugar Levels

The polyphenols present in green tea extract reduce the amount of amylase that’s produced by the body. Amylase is the enzyme that converts starch into sugar. Consuming green tea helps to decrease blood sugar levels and thus helps keep diabetes under control.

7)Prevents Liver Disease

Green tea protects the liver from toxins and thus helps prevent liver disease.

Applications

a. Application of tea polyphenols in the industry of medicine

Tea polyphenols can protect easy-oxidant in the body from oxidizing through oxidized itself to made cellular activity normalize.

b. Application of tea polyphenols in food industry

The fat in food is easy to oxidize itself to produce free radicals. Tea polyphenols can supply lots of protons, which combine with over 98% of these free radicals, thereby stop next chemical reaction and protect the fat from further oxidizing.

c. Application of tea polyphenols in the industry of daily chemicals

In general, most cosmetics contain oil, wax, hydrocarbon and surface active agent, all that easily react to oxygen in air and produce peroxidant, acids, aldehydes etc.
